Department of Computer Science and IT

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Programme;

 Aims and Objectives

The overall goal of the programme is to provide broad-based education to computer science students that will produce graduates equipped to apply best practices in software design, research and implementation to a wide range of software and computer systems in organizations.

In fulfilling this, the program is designed to:

  • Impart sound technical knowledge and skills to students on a range of computer science courses, thereby enabling them to develop the appropriate know-how in troubleshooting, designing and implementing software and computer systems, and
  • Develop entrepreneurial and basic business skills to enable students recognize opportunity and develop businesses to facilitate service delivery.
  • More specifically, the programme aims at developing technical competencies in the area of Software Design and Development, Databases and Database Management, Data Networks and Communication, IT Security, Entrepreneurship and IT Project Management.

The objectives of the programme are to train students who will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the fundamental principles, theories and practices both in the computer industry and in the academic field.
  • Demonstrate high level of expertise in the use of computer hardware and software systems.
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the principles underlying the design and the performance of computer hardware and software.
  • Develop, test, document and maintain software and further evaluate computer applications.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, proposals and design to colleagues and to potential user
  • Product graduates who can function effectively as part of a project team involved in programming, system analysis and design, database, networking, web technology, multimedia and mobile applications.
  • Align the dynamic nature of digital technology (innovation) to businesses or organizations.
  • Recognize business opportunity that enables them to develop IT services for commercial gain. Pursue higher degrees in Computer Science and related areas.
  • Develop the requisite skills for undertaking research-based IT projects.

Learning Outcomes

The BSc. in Computer Science degree has the following program outcomes. Our program enables students to achieve, by the time of graduation: 

  • An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline;
  • An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution;
  • An ability to design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs;
  • An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal;
  • An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities;
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
  • An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations and society;
  • Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, continuing professional development;
  • An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practices.
  • An ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices;
  • An ability to apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity.

Aims and Objectives

The programme aims at producing competent graduates to deal with the current and emerging technological complexities in industry and in their communities. Graduates are expected to recognize opportunities and develop appropriate IT solutions that seek to address a particular issue.

In fulfilling this, the program is designed to:

  • Design and write software programs to perform a wide range of tasks.
  • Design and implement varying networking solutions to facilitate data communication.
  • Understand database design, implementation and management.
  • Develop the requisite skills for undertaking research-based   IT projects.
  • Recognize business opportunity that enables them to develop IT services for commercial gain.

Department of Nursing

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme;

Aims of the Programme

The KNUTSFORD BSc. Nursing Programme is designed to offer specialised and professional training in Nursing to students in response to the growing demand for improved health care.

The four-year undergraduate BSc. Nursing Programme is tailored to prepare graduates to enter the field of nursing through a fusion of theoretical classroom study and ample hands-on clinical experience.

The Programme aims at preparing competent and knowledgeable nurses to provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.

Ultimately, graduates of the programme would have developed sound academic and professional competencies for careers in Nursing and related fields.

 The objectives of the BSc. Programme in Nursing are to:

  • Enable students to provide promotive, preventive, and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and Programmes.
  • Develop students’ knowledge and skills in providing nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups.
  • Prepare students to make independent decisions in nursing situations and to protect and facilitate the rights of individuals and groups in pursuit of good health care.
  • Prepare students to assume responsibilities as professionals, competent nurses to provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • Train students to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical / public health setting.
  • Equip students with critical thinking skills in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  • Train students to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and team work.
  • Educate students on practicing within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  • Train students to be able to demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional actions by documenting and maintaining accurate and relevant intervention.
  • Enable students to demonstrate and apply entrepreneurial skills in nursing
  • Prepare students to incorporate the use of nursing informatics in the care of patients and the analysis of data generated to improve care outcome.
  • Equip students to demonstrate understanding of national policies and their relevance to nursing
  • Prepare students to be able to coordinate the health care activities provided for the patient by other categories of health care providers.
  • Prepare students to be able to use knowledge acquired in the principles of homeostasis to meet patients’ needs by monitoring vital signs of the patient and their reaction to disease conditions, trauma, stress, anxiety and medication.
