Major Programmes

Department of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) is designed to provide specialized and professional training to meet the increasing demand for quality healthcare. This four-year undergraduate programme combines theoretical instruction with extensive hands-on clinical practice, preparing students to become competent and knowledgeable nurses capable of delivering promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services.

Programme Objectives

The BSc Nursing Programme aims to:

  • Equip students to deliver promotive, preventive, and restorative health services consistent with national health policies and programs.
  • Enhance students’ knowledge and skills in nursing care, based on the nursing process, in collaboration with individuals and communities.
  • Prepare students to make independent decisions in nursing scenarios and uphold the rights of individuals and groups to ensure quality healthcare.
  • Develop professionals capable of assuming responsibilities as nurses, educators, supervisors, and managers across clinical and community health settings.
  • Foster critical thinking skills for effective decision-making to ensure high-quality care.
  • Improve communication skills for effective interactions with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health teams.
  • Instill adherence to ethical codes, professional conduct, and standards within legal frameworks.
  • Promote accountability by training students to document and evaluate nursing interventions accurately.
  • Enable students to demonstrate entrepreneurial skills within the nursing field.
  • Incorporate nursing informatics to enhance patient care and data analysis for improved outcomes.
  • Educate students on how national policies impact nursing practice.
  • Prepare students to coordinate healthcare activities among different healthcare providers.

Programme Details

  • Minimum of four (4) years
  • Maximum of six (6) years

ii. Credits Required for Degree Completion

  • Level 100: Maximum of 132 credits; minimum of 120 credits
  • Level 200: Maximum of 102 credits; minimum of 96 credits
  • Level 300: Maximum of 72 credits; minimum of 60 credits

iii. Programme Components
